What Can I Use My Donor Compensation For?

Compensation is not the only reason why our donors donate, it is an important component of the egg donation process. Our donors are compensated for their time and effort, not the number of eggs retrieved. Once you receive compensation, that compensation is entirely yours to keep and it is up to you to decide what to do with it.
How much is my compensation?
Once you are matched with an Intended Family, our agency will send you a match confirmation form that includes your individualized compensation for that match.
When and how will I receive my compensation?
After beginning the injectable medication, you will receive $1,000 of your compensation. You will receive the rest of your compensation upon the completion of your egg donation procedure. This is usually done through direct deposit.
If for some reason the donation is cancelled through no fault of your own and you have already started injections, you will retain the $1,000 and collect any other reimbursements due to you at at the time the cycle is cancelled.
It is important to know that compensation is taxable income, and you will be responsible for doing your taxes (we will send you a 1099 form).
What do I use my compensation for?
When you receive your compensation, the money is yours to spend however you would like! All egg donation related expenses have already been paid for by the intended parents, so you are not responsible for any of those medical bills, attorney fees, and other costs.
Over the years after working with so many donors, we have seen donors use their compensation in many different ways.
The most common use of compensation we hear from donors is for college/paying off existing student loans. We have also seen donors use compensation for a down payment on a house, to start a business, purchase a car, take their dream vacation, invest, and open a Roth IRA. Some donors also use the money to help family members.
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do at AsiaWest is to hear about the incredible ways egg donation is able to help young women achieve their goals and chase their dreams in so many different ways.
At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong way to use your compensation. Hopefully this blog post has provided some inspiration as you are thinking about it!
