Why having a support person for egg donation is important

Today's blog was written by Delcie, one of our donor coordinators.

All fertility clinics will require that egg donors have a support person to be with them for the egg retrieval, (approximately two days around your egg retrieval). For some, this can feel like an inconvenience, but here are the reasons it’s so important.

Emotional Support

The process can be emotionally taxing for some donors, and having someone there can provide reassurance, and help alleviate any anxiety.

Physical Assistance

After the procedure, you may feel groggy or experience discomfort due to anesthesia. A support person can help you get home safely and provide care during recovery.

Transportation

Egg retrievals require anesthesia, which means you won’t be allowed to drive afterward. A support person can ensure you get home safely.

Decision-Making

In the rare event that any decisions need to be made quickly, having someone who knows your wishes can be invaluable.

General Well-being

Recovery varies from person to person, and having someone to look after you, ensure you’re comfortable, and help with any immediate needs can make the experience less stressful.
